County history

The mine supported the Black Ridge camp and Dry Wells through much of the century. Camp housing was removed in 1958. Families moved into town and Black Ridge Elementary closed.

The workings went to standby in 1982 and closed in 1986. The headframe remains because removal was never funded. The portal is gated and deep passages are blocked.

Public safety

Do not enter a gated opening, climb unmaintained mine structures, or move posted barriers. Surface lights do not indicate that a building is staffed.
